Just observe the fruit from the picture below. The Vibrant red that contrasts the fresh green leaves. Doesn’t this unbeatable beauty of nature instantly win our hearts?! Feels like plucking and popping them into your mouth!

Wait a minute. Did we forget our insect friends, we share food with them too, right?! Yes, we do.

Sawfly, fruit worm, sap beetles or picnic bugs, white worms, bugs, moths, larvae of some butterflies feed on ripe fruits and leaves of raspberry plants. Fungi could even infect the soft fruit.

If you open the fruit using the tip of your fingers you can find that some of the berries have a web-like fungal formation inside. This is definitely what we need to avoid. These fungi or bugs might cause infections when consumed unknowingly.

The best-recommended practice for this is to soak the opened raspberries in boiled water for just 2 minutes and then use them for consumption. Also note, the soaking might vary for larger quantities of the fruit.

CBD

‘Cannabidiol’ in short is widely referred to as CBD. Cannabis is one of the species among the 170 species of the Cannabaceae plant family. There are two subspecies of cannabis, Cannabis sativa, and cannabis Indica. Hemp is a variety of Cannabis Sativa, which is a popular and incredibly useful source of Industrial fiber used in textiles, cosmetics, ropes, insulation, clothing, food, plastics, building materials, biofuels, etc. Beer is the first thing that one would pronounce when you hear about Hemp.

Cannabis breeders breed various varieties of cannabis for therapeutic actions, medicinal potentials as well as recreational experiences. At this point, it is important to understand the main ingredients in cannabis. THC ( Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD ( Cannabidiol) The fluctuating levels of these constituents in each variety determines its psychotropic nature. The proportion of THC and CBD determines the purpose for which it is put to use. THC is psychotropic in nature and CBD is not. Hence, CBD does not make you high.

CBD and Endocannabinoid system

The endocannabinoid system is essential and the most significant physiologic system in the human body used that supports enhancing health. Endocannabinoids and receptors are present in various body parts. Organs, immune cells, glands, connective tissues, and the brain all have endocannabinoids and receptors.

It initiates physiological processes that help in controlling various body processes like mood, stress, immune system, and the neurological system and is focussed on attaining homeostasis. Therefore, a stable endocannabinoid system is essential for maintaining good health.

There is a growing body of studies that are engaged in proving the response of external cannabinoids or CBD on the endocannabinoids in the human body. Along with the positive outcomes of CBD on CB1 and CB2 receptors.

Food for thought:

While we come to understand that the raspberry fruit has such amazing health benefits, raspberry leaves might also have been used for medicinal remedies. But there is no conclusive scientific research that proves it.

Are we missing the potential therapeutic benefits of lifestyle mediated health and succumbing to drug-based cure to disease and not a state of well being? This is a typical case with most botanical plants that possess amazing health benefits but scientific research has not been able to prove it.

Whom should we blame? The approach of pharmacology? Vested interest by governments of countries or powerful businessmen or corporate companies? Stringent laws and bureaucracies that make it inaccessible to test or experiment? Who do you think should change the approach?!

Do you remember the Hippocratic philosophy?

The central idea: Principle of wholeness, “The certain knowledge of nature is solely possible from medicine and only when it is correctly approached as a whole”.

Just wondering what you do with the water that’s drained off, doesn’t that take some of the nutritional value with it?

      Hi Amy, Thanks for writing!

Since we don’t soak them for long, it shouldn’t absorb all the nutrition. We are trying to get rid of the fungus if any, just not to upset our stomach.

Also, considering the current pandemic times, it is a good practice to wash all fruits and vegetables in hot water before eating. I am avoiding eating them raw these days;)

How did your CBD Raspberry delight turn out?! What twist did you add?!
